Island Road

Full Exterior Masonry Overhaul Built for Lasting Impact
Timeline

Jan '20 - Feb '22

Location

Oak Bay, BC

Client

Homeowner

Island Road was a full exterior masonry and hardscaping transformation, taking a dated pink stucco exterior and rebuilding the home’s presence through high-quality stone cladding and custom detailing. The project combined careful planning with hands-on execution, resulting in a refreshed exterior that delivers both structural improvement and a refined, enduring finish.

Before work began, the home’s exterior was finished in pink stucco and was in need of a full update, including structural work. The scope evolved into a comprehensive exterior rebuild modernizing the appearance while upgrading key exterior elements through durable masonry materials and detailed stonework.

Goals

  • Update and modernize the exterior through a full masonry overhaul
  • Complete required structural improvements as part of the exterior rebuild
  • Deliver a durable, high-end finish through quality stone materials and precise installation.

Unique Challenges

Complex Site Conditions

The property’s pie-shaped layout and sloped terrain created a demanding work environment, especially with significant work taking place in the back garden. The clients remained on site for the duration of the project, which changed how we approached the work, and neighbours on either side needed consideration for dust and noise.

Access and Logistics

Due to limited access, demolition had to be completed by hand, with materials carried down the hill. New materials also had to be walked in and staged manually, requiring efficient sequencing and disciplined site organization.

Technical Approach

The project combined heavy exterior transformation work with custom stone detailing to elevate both appearance and performance.

Key work completed included:

  • Rocky Mountain Granite cladding installation to replace the existing exterior finish
  • Dolomitic limestone (Indonesia) used for capping and flatwork
  • Custom stone detailing at all openings: stone jambs, sills, and headers for all doors and windows

Collaboration & Coordination

This residential masonry project was delivered through close coordination with the general contractor, homeowner and a multi-partner build team.
