Work Location: Victoria, BC

Journeyperson Mason

($30 – $38 per hour based on experience and competency)

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Building with high competency with various masonry units and build formats for residential, commercial, and heritage builds
  • Hitting production benchmarks and daily build targets efficiently
  • Laying bricks and/or stone veneer and fullbed facing
  • Build patios, garden walls and other landscape installations
  • Lay bricks and/or stones to build or conserve residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces
  • Remove, fabricate, and replace stone elements in heritage structures
  • Instruct/mentor apprentices

Journeyperson Conservation Mason

If you are a professional Mason skilled in our trade with at least 5 years of masonry experience, with specific knowledge and interest in conservation work. In accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for the conservation of Historic Places in Canada, our masons must be able to identify, match and shape stone and brick by hand and have experience mixing, repairing and installing traditional mortars. Apprentice Mason

($24.50 – $29.50 per hour based on experience and competency)

  • Tooling joints to designated finish of mason onsite

  • Following and enforcing site safety protocols

  • Housekeeping site including cleaning their mixing station and mixing tools, ensuring safe access at all times, ensuring supplies are protected and in appropriate places, clearing work areas of clutter site safety and access ensured, collecting and consolidating waste and debris, protecting tools and site works

Previous experience as a PC is not necessary, however a strong command of administration and coordination skills are.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our skilled team, including masons, project managers, owners and administrative staff, as well as liaise with clients and vendors. Your excellent communication skills and attention to detail will be essential in maintaining effective relationships and supporting the financial aspects of our projects.

Overarching Accountabilities:

Project schedule, cost controls, project submittals, project tracking, measuring, and communicating quality control targets, project financial reporting, ordering of tools, equipment, and materials. As well as building meaningful relations with all stakeholders whom you come in contact with.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager (OM), the PC supports the OM in ensuring projects run smoothly from start to completion. The PC manages the administrative tasks relating to the projects and supports the site leads in the logistical requirements the projects. The PC also provides support to the OM on large/complex jobs.

Other tasks will include and not be limited to:
  • Ensuring successful handover from project planning to project kick-off
  • Assist in work planning and implementation through scheduling management of the team.

  • Assist the OM with management of the project schedule, report on financial performance of the project, organize communications and information through charts, reports, handover documents etc.
  • Preparing and reviewing project submittals
  • Analyzing projects drawings and specifications for estimating and project planning

About You and the Role:
  • You have experience working in different trades (masonry, construction, landscaping etc.)
  • You were successful in previous positions by being organized, with strong eye-hand coordination and an excellent work ethic
  • You are physically strong and able to perform the physical requirements of the job
  • You would like to grow into a seasoned mason one day
  • You are punctual, excellent at time keeping and personal organization is a requirement
Roles and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Provide support to the masons
  • Accurately mix mortar while maintaining timelines

Summary/How to Apply

You will learn to anticipate the needs of the masons and over time your training will increase to allow you to develop in the trade. To be successful in this role, you will take direction well, be able to learn our techniques and have a true appreciation for the heritage work we create. You arrive on site early, display dedication and consistency. You are diligent without being managed.

The successful applicant is required to have steel-toed boots and basic hand tools, and must be able to lift 50 lbs without assistance.
