Work Location: Victoria, BC

Journeyman Mason

($30 – $36 per hour based on experience and competency.)

We have an opening for a professional Mason who is skilled in our trade and whose values align with ours. We are a team of professionals, who take great pride in our work. We are known for our traditional, yet creative work that is top quality and built to last. With European style and an old-fashioned work ethic, Heritage Masonry delivers friendly, honest service that exceeds expectations with signature workmanship and lasting results.

We’ve spent more than a decade forging strong relations with community, suppliers, building with integrity and honest communication. When people hire us, they know they will get the best.

As the successful applicant you will have 5 years of masonry experience, with sound experience in at least two fields of masonry: stone, brick and/or veneer. You will be a mentor and influencer to our team of apprentices and labourers. As a team member you will be keen to contribute to a tight-knit group of masons and together we will push our careers forward with the Heritage family.

*Strong interpersonal skills and clear communications (verbally and in writing) are important for this role. Punctuality and strong personal organisation skills are essential.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Building with high competency with various masonry units and build formats for residential, commercial, and heritage builds;
  • Hitting production benchmarks and daily build targets efficiently;
  • Laying bricks and/or stone veneer and fullbed facing;
  • Build patios, garden walls and other landscape installations;
  • Lay bricks and/or stones to build or conserve residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces;
  • Remove, fabricate, and replace stone elements in heritage structures;
  • Instruct/mentor apprentices

Office Administration

Office Administration/Bookkeeping

As our Office Administrator, you will play an important role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our office operations, while also handling important bookkeeping responsibilities. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to maintain accurate financial records, manage accounts payable and receivable, and support the overall financial health of our organization.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our skilled team, including masons, project managers, and administrative staff, as well as liaise with clients and vendors. Your excellent communication skills and attention to detail will be essential in maintaining effective relationships and supporting the financial aspects of our projects.

Bookkeeping Responsibilities:
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks accurately and efficiently, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded in a timely manner.
  • Manage Accounts Payable (AP) functions, including processing invoices, verifying expenses, and reconciling vendor statements.
  • Handle Accounts Receivable (AR) activities, such as generating invoices, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to support decision-making processes.
Office Administration Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day office administration tasks, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Update team members with relevant information through email, letters, and documents.
  • Administer paperwork and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Update Excel files and budgets, providing support in financial management.
  • Coordinate meetings, take minutes, and maintain the project calendar/schedule.
  • Perform general administrative duties to support smooth office operations.
  • Assist in accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks.
  • Stay updated on compliance and safety regulations.
  • Support payroll processing, auditing, and communication of sick days, vacation, and other related matters.
  • Manage information and ensure the organization and cleanliness of the server.
  • Handle written external communication, including insurance documents, rate sheets, and invoicing.
  • Assist in online ordering and procurement.
  • Manage employee files and support the orientation of new hires.
  • Maintain site books, staff books, and tracking systems.
  • Contribute to the development and writing of new policies.
  • Support social media posts and other marketing-related activities.
Requirements:
  • Diploma or degree in Business, Marketing, Accounting, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of similar experience.
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks or Sage.
  • Strong command of written and verbal English communication.
  • High attention to detail, with a triple-checking approach to ensure accuracy.
  • Ability to create and implement processes and systems for enhanced organization.

  • Following directions of masons on the build and assisting the labourers with site needs;
  • Tooling joints to designated finish of mason onsite;
  • Ensure masons’ work stations are prepared, well stocked and tidy;
  • Staging their build areas including scaffolding;
  • Following and enforcing site safety protocols;
  • Hitting build benchmarks and daily build targets efficiently;
  • Housekeeping site including cleaning their mixing station and mixing tools, ensuring safe access at all times, ensuring supplies are protected and in appropriate places, clearing work areas of clutter site safety and access ensured, collecting and consolidating waste and debris, protecting tools and site works;
  • Ensuring site is tidy and tools are clean secured at end of shift;
  • Posting daily productivity targets along with pictures of the progress to management and leads.
